goTenna Pro
The world’s smallest, lightest, and most affordable tactical mesh networking radio system.
The goTenna Pro is the workhorse of goTenna, and the first major iteration in capabilities outside of our initial consumer-centric business.
Although our consumer products had received critical acclaim, they also had significant drawbacks in terms of tactical flexibility, range, and ruggedization needed and demanded by critical operators. So although we recognized our customer’s requests for features such as mesh networking, removable antennas, more power, etc. - in my role as the architect and designer of the system, I had to keep in mind that many of the features they loved about goTenna - particularly size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C) had to be delicately balanced with their new requests.
I believe that top-tier product design is a balancing act. One where the realities of technology must be balanced against the demands of the market. Over the course of two years of intensive collaborative development, which often felt like a technological game of whack-a-mole, our team successfully threaded the needle between adding capabilities without ballooning our key differentiators in SWaP-C, finally culminating in the launch of the Pro product to near universal acclaim at the close of 2017.
Today the goTenna Pro is the world’s smallest, lightest, most energy efficient, and by far the most affordable digital tactical mesh networking radio system in its class. Deployed around the world, the goTenna Pro is trusted by customers as diverse as Special Forces operators to firefighters on the front lines of forest infernos, to rescue operations in disaster areas.
Beyond architecting the goTenna Pro system, I was also responsible for the development of our government business unit which helped secure our $27MM series C funding led by Founder’s Fund.
